YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Retired boxer Kelly Pavlik failed to show up in court Friday to answer to theft charges after refusing to pay a Youngstown taxi cab company $25.
According to Phil Chance, Jr., Pavlik claims he didn't know he was supposed to be in court Friday morning.
Pavlik was picked up from his home by a Mahoning County Sherriff's deputy and booked at the Mahoning County Jail.
He will be released on a $2,500 own recognizance bond.
"A" Cab owner Brian Bleggi tells 21 News his employee picked up Pavlik from a bar on Meridian Road shortly before 3 a.m. Wednesday.
When he was dropped off at his home, he refused to pay the cab driver.
Pavlik tells 21 News by telephone that he feared for his safety because the cab driver was driving erratically and passed by his home three times.
