Struthers business destroyed by fire

STRUTHERS, Ohio - Firefighters from several communities spent Memorial Day battling a major blaze that destroyed a Struthers business.
Struthers firefighters were dispatched just before 11:00 a.m. to Struthers Chair and Tent Rental on Spring Street; along with firefighters from Poland, Campbell and Youngstown.
A man eating breakfast at a neighboring restaurant on Youngstown-Poland Road was among the first to spot the smoke and flames and call 911.
Jason Heck of Boardman said, "I noticed that there was some smoke coming from the spiral vent from the top of the building and I grabbed my buddy. I said let's go outside, and by the time we got outside there was like 15 to 20 foot flames shooting out of the front windows."
The former Troyer Farms Potato Chips Plant most recently became home to Struthers Chair and Tent Rental. But the property is owned by Lyon Creek Corporation.
Struthers Fire Chief Gary Mudryk says, "When we arrived on-scene, we had flames through the roof. The gentlemen made an attack on the building, pretty quick knock down, and pretty much kept it to the building of origin."
Several storage buildings, including a storage facility for Clemente Ambulance, were saved.
"We were able to keep it in this building, so there's no damage next door, little smoke damage, but no fire damage," Chief Mudryk said.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
