Officials outline plans for revival of Conneaut Lake Park

CONNEAUT LAKE, Pa. - More than one hundred people attended a meeting Wednesday night at the Conneaut Lake Volunteer Fire Department Hall to hear from members of Conneaut Lake Park's new board of trustees and the Economic Progress Alliance of Crawford County.
The chairman of both entities, Bill Bragg says, " Long-term, over an eight or ten year period, we'll be turning the park into both an amusement park and an events center. So we will do some major building there and we'll be working with the hotel. The hotel is leased for 30 years."
The board will rely on revenue from facility, ground and venue leases as well as real estate sales on parts of the park's property to make renovations to the park and pay off more than $914,000.00 in back real estate taxes.
"We plan to pay it back in four years or less. We'll immediately give them in the next month probably $100,000.00 and then there's insurance money that's in escrow for the beach club.. somewhere around 600-thousand dollars."
The board just started last week, so for this summer, they are going to try to clean up as much of the park as possible.
"So right now our short term plan is to clean it up. Demolition some buildings and to do what work we can to keep it going for this summer."
Among the items on the tear down list.. Rotting midway buildings.. And the water slide.. Which hasn't been used in years.
The board needs the county, local school district and two townships to approve of the tax repayment plan before September j so that the park won't go up for sheriff's sale.
