YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - If you like to sell things on Craigslist, the Better Business Bureau says to watch out for fake checks.
The BBB said some scammers send fake checks to sellers asking them to cash their checks without even seeing the items first.
Often, that is a red flag that the buyer is not legit.
"Avoid pre-paid debit cards, wire transfers, any of those items. This is a private sale, you don't know if it's a fake check, you have to be careful," said Melissa Ames with the Better Business Bureau.
The BBB also recommends meeting a potential buyer in a public place to make sale transactions and never make a transaction with someone located outside the United States.
