YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - A week after the Saint Vincent DePaul Society's dining hall closed for personnel issues, the doors are now back open.

Even though some volunteers walked out last week after kitchen manager Ralph "Skip" Barone resigned, the kitchen had no problem getting volunteers Monday to serve lunch to well over a hundred needy guests.

New dining hall manager, Wayne Murray, says he's happy to be aboard.
"We've got a full schedule of volunteers all week long. People are here eating and that's what it's all about, feeding the hungry," says Murray.

And volunteers say they are satisfied with the way the kitchen is being operated.
Volunteer JoAnn Burgmyer of Struthers, says, "There's a need for us to volunteer and i usually volunteer at least a couple times a year just so I can help out. I like to help out other people."

Volunteer Jennifer Stitzek of Youngstown says "It's good to give back. I would hope someone would do it for me if I was in the same situation. I was taught to give back what was so freely given to me."

While people were eating inside the hall, the former kitchen manager along with several volunteers were doing their own charity in the outside parking lot. The group gave out 160 lunches, as they did all last week with money donated by a local businessman.

Skip Barone says "We feel there is still a need. These people don't have anything to eat when they go home so we're packing these bag lunches with a sandwich, a drink, some chips and some cookies so they will have something to snack on this evening."

Barone says he and his group will continue to give out take home meals for as long as they feel there is a need.
