YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - A Girard man is sent to the hospital after a police pursuit in Youngstown ends in a crash.
Police attempted to stop Noah Thorton, 26, on South Avenue after he made an illegal turn around 6 p.m. on Thursday.
According to a police report, officers followed Thorton with lights and sirens onto Interstate 680 from South Avenue. Thorton took the Mahoning Avenue/Glenwood exit off I-680, ignoring the signal by police.
He continued onto Mahoning Avenue cutting between traffic, ignoring red lights and driving up to speeds of 60 miles per hour.
Police ended the pursuit after Thorton he turned onto Oakwood Avenue, driving the wrong direction on a one way street.
Officers found Thorton after he attempted to run another stop light at Connecticut Avenue and Meridian Road, but collided with another car.
Thorton was injured in the accident and taken to Saint Elizabeth hospital. The driver in the other car was not injured.
Police searched Thorton's car after he admitted to having drugs in his possession. They found crack cocaine, a used needle and a spoon with possible drug residue.
He also told police he ran because he thought he had a warrant out for his arrest.
Thorton was cited for failure to signal change of course. He is also facing charges for possession of drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of drug instruments and failure to comply with order or signal of police.
He is expected to appear in court Friday at 1:30 p.m. pending his release from the hospital.
