Google Classroom generating excitement among physical education students in Campbell

CAMPBELL, Ohio - Since the beginning of the school year, students at Campbell High School have relied on a new web-based platform, Google Classroom, to complete assignments, communicate with teachers and stay organized. Students also using it in their physical education classes to gain a better understanding of activities they'll be participating in.
"We played different game. We play like the flying discs, which was like football with flying discs and she sent us the videos on how to do it, like the rules and everything and like teamwork. So, that next day I was ready to play that game," said student Yarielis Otero.
"Google classroom lets the teacher comment give you direction or a guideline to the made up sport or activity and it allows the student to kind of get a feel for it before they play it so they don't go in their blindfolded," said student Justin Bowling.
Physical education teachers are able to upload videos, game rules and homework to the web-based program. Students can log on before class, complete work during class, give teachers feedback on activities and finish assignments from home.
"Well, I think it is great. You could use the technology to jot down things that you did and actually participate. I think it is a good way to be physical, active and also learn," said student Yianni Trikilis.
Teachers can see who has or hasn't completed the work, grade assignemnts and communicate with students. Teacher Tula O'Neal says she's certainly noticed a different in how her students embrace class.
"I've noticed a big change. I've had a lot of, especially my little 8th graders are telling me, we say the video last night, my mom and i, we saw the video and I can't wait to play this game," said teacher Tula O'Neal.
