MERCER, Pa. - A 19-year-old Mercer County man is jailed on $500,000 bond after a gun incident that caused a lockdown at Mercer Area Schools.

State Police arrested Robbie Brian Abraham Tuesday afternoon following a search that involved State Police, Sheriff's Deputies, Mercer Borough Police and State Parole authorities.

Police say the incident began shortly before 1 p.m. Tuesday when Abraham's mother told police that her son had a firearm, and was either homicidal or suicidal.

The mom says Abraham pointed a handgun at her and threatened to kill her.

She says her son fired the gun into the air before pointing it at his own head and threatened to kill himself.

The mother called police who, after searching for Abraham, spotted him walking along the 300 block of Vickerman Road just before 2 p.m.

Police say Abraham was still armed and initially refused to drop the weapon.

The suspect eventually complied and was taken into custody.

Officers say he was armed with a loaded revolver and a knife.

As a precaution, both buildings at the Mercer Area School District were placed on lockdown while police searched the area which is about two miles southwest of Mercer Borough.

School Superintendent Bill Gathers says during that time, no one was allowed to enter or exit the buildings.

Gathers says he was informed just before 2 p.m. that the suspect was in custody, and the lockdown was lifted.

Abraham was arraigned before a district magistrate on charges of aggravated assault, terroristic threats, recklessly endangering another person and disorderly conduct.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 5.
