Email scam changes YSU employee direct deposit information

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Youngstown State University Police and YSU Information Technology Services are investigating after several employees fell victim to a paycheck scam.
According to Neal McNally, Vice President of Finance and Business Operations, some YSU paychecks may have been redirected and deposited into accounts not associated with the employees.
McNally said some employees received a phishing email last week that looked like it was coming from the YSU Office of Human resources. That email contained a link that redirected to a page asking for login credentials.
McNally said the university believes approximately 35 employees fell victim to the scam.
YSU Public Information Officer Ron Cole said the university should know later today if more employees were affected.
The university asks that employees make sure their paychecks were deposited into the correct accounts. If not, contact payroll at 330-941-1470. They also suggest that all employees change their passwords to the YSU portal.
