YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - A Beloit man began serving a two day jail sentence over the weekend for an accident that claimed the life of a motorcyclist.

Twenty-one-year old Austin Davenport was booked into the Mahoning County jail on Sunday to begin serving the sentence handed down by Judge Diane Vettori last March.

Davenport pleaded no contest to a reduced misdemeanor charge of vehicular homicide in connection with the death of Scott E. Wilson.

The 56-year-old Beloit man was killed in August of last year when his motorcycle was rear-ended by Davenport's car as Wilson was attempting to turn into a private drive on U.S. Route 62 in Smith Township.

Davenport. who received only minor injuries, was also fined $1,000, was placed on probation for two years, had his driver's license suspended for five years, and was ordered to perform 500 hours of community service.

Judge Vettori sentenced Davenport to 180 days in jail, but suspended 178 days of the term.

The judge ordered that the sentence not be carried out until Sunday.
