DETROIT - President-elect Donald Trump was back on Twitter Tuesday morning. One of his tweets talked about GM and the Chevy Cruze.
Trump tweeted, "General Motors is sending Mexican made model of Chevy Cruze to U.S. car dealers-tax free across border. Make in U.S.A.or pay big border tax!"
General Motors has been was singled out in the past by the President-elect as a company that’s moving jobs out of the U.S.
But GM says all of its Cruze sedans sold in the U.S. are now made in Lordstown, Ohio. Only the hatchback versions are imported from Mexico, and that's just a small percentage of the Cruzes sold. Still, shares of GM fell about one percent immediately after the tweet, but then recovered.
Last year Trump threatened to tax Ford, which plans to shift production of the compact Focus to Mexico. Jobs at the U.S. factory that makes Focuses would be preserved because the plant would get a new pickup and SUV.
