NILES, Ohio - If the new owner of Gander Mountain sticks by his previously announced plan to keep the Niles store open, it will apparently have a new name.
Marcus Lemonis, CEO of Camping World which purchased the Gander Mountain leases and name, tweeted on Thursday that the stores remaining open will be renamed Gander Outdoors.
Lemonis, who says the change is in keeping with plans for a fresh start, is looking for a new logo for the retail chain, and announced on Twitter that he is offering $25,000 to the person who comes up with the winning design.
As of Thursday, the store in the Eastwood Mall Complex was still on the latest list of 70 or so locations that Lemonis has said will remain open.
However, some stores that Lemonis had previously said would remain in business are now off the list.
Lemonis tweeted that stores in Columbus, Huber Heights and Reynoldsburg, Ohio that that had been on the “staying open” list have been removed because the landlord “changed the deal”.
Even the current list of stores earmarked to remain open, which includes Niles, is contingent upon continued “cooperation” from landlords, according to a Lemonis tweet.
All Gander Mountain stores are holding "going out of business" sales to clear out inventory and give the brand a new start, according to Lemonis.
