Air conditioner proves too big to shoplift from Austintown Walmart
An Austintown man who apparently needed something to help him cool off ended up cooling his heels in the Mahoning County jail instead. According to a police report, 48-year-old Stephen Medved was stopped on Monday at the door of the Mahoning Avenue Walmart by a greeter who asked to see the receipt for the air conditioner he was carrying in a shopping cart. AUSTINTOWN TWP., Ohio - An Austintown man who apparently needed something to help him cool off ended up cooling his heels in the Mahoning County jail instead.
According to a police report, 48-year-old Stephen Medved was stopped on Monday at the door of the Mahoning Avenue Walmart by a greeter who asked to see the receipt for the air conditioner he was carrying in a shopping cart.
Medved reportedly replied that he already had the air conditioner when he entered the store.
Unfortunately for Medved, a store security official who says she saw Medved remove the appliance from a shelf, confronted him outside the store.
Medved was escorted back inside where police were called.
He was arrested on a charge of theft.
A court hearing is set for Medved on Wednesday.
