WARREN, Ohio - The Trumbull County Sheriff is conducting an internal investigation after an officer mistakenly released the wrong inmate from the jail early Friday morning.

The Sheriff said about 2 am someone came to the jail to post bond for 36-year-old Andrea Gintert. The individual said the name through an intercom system set-up outside the jail. The officer mistook the name for another inmate, 39-year-old Amber Skinner, who was then released.

According to jail records, Skinner was being held on two charges of Endangering Children.

Police picked up Skinner about six hours later. She is now back in the Trumbull County jail. The Sheriff said the public was never in danger.

According to jail records, Gintert was released at about 4:30 am.

The Sheriff declined to go on camera but calls the incident "embarrassing." He said, the department will take ownership of the mistake and that it won't happen again.

The Department's Chief Deputy says they are in the process of reviewing the intercom system and how inmates are released.
