WARREN, Ohio - Officials in the city of Warren say residents can play a part in easing the problem of flooding on streets and roads.

The Water Pollution Control Department says that every fall they receive complaint calls about street flooding and standing water on roads and ditches.

Department officials say that most of the time the water is being blocked from storm drain grates covered with leaves.

The city is asking residents to refrain from blowing leaves or grass into the roadway or ditch.

A city ordinance prohibits depositing leaves or grass clippings in manholes or catch basins.

Leaves will only be picked up in paper bags, not plastic.

Residents are being encouraged to report the dumping of leaves, grass or other materials into the city storm system by calling the Water Pollution Control Department at (330) 841-2591.
