HERMITAGE, Pa. - If you're wondering what to do with all that Halloween candy left over from Wednesday's rainy trick-or-treat night and really don't plan to eat it, a church in Mercer County can help you turn it over to our troops overseas and their families.

The Hickory United Methodist Church in Hermitage is collecting the candy as part of Operation Gratitude.

Every year, Operation Gratitude sends thousands of individually addressed care packages to soldiers, sailors, airmen, marines, and coast guardsmen deployed overseas, as well as their children left behind.

The packages also go to first responders, new recruits, veterans, wounded heroes, and their caregivers.

Each package contains snacks, hygiene products, entertainment, and handmade items, as well as personal letters of support.

Those wishing to donate candy can bring it on Sunday, November 4, to the donation box at the church, 240 N. Hermitage Road, Hermitage.
