WARREN, Ohio - Sentencing is expected in the coming weeks for a Warren woman who police say had a malnourished dog feeding on two dead dogs in her home.

Tabitha Ballew, 24, pleaded guilty to three counts of animal cruelty on Wednesday.

Ballew was initially charged in March after a neighbor told police that she hadn't heard the dogs barking for about a week she went inside the home.

That's where the woman said she found three dogs in a cage. Two of the dogs were dead, and a third appeared to be severely malnourished.

Police say they witnessed the living dog feeding on the flesh of the dead dogs.

Officers reported smelling a strong stench inside the house, as well as feces, urine, and clothing on the floor in conditions police describe as deplorable.

Police say they found similar conditions in the room belonging to Ballew's three-year-old daughter.

The neighbor told police that Ballew has, in the past, asked her for food so she can feed her daughter, adding that sometimes she cooks for Ballew's daughter because she doesn't have food.

The report said the three-year-old was staying with her father in Niles at the time, and the neighbor believes that the mother was at a friend's home in Girard.

The surviving dog was turned over to a humane agent to find safe shelter and veterinary care.

Ballew will be sentenced after a pre-sentence report is completed.
