Employees from the Alorica call center in Niles presented the Alzheimer's Association with a check for $7,001 Friday.

Alorica employees dug in their pockets for donations and today presented the check as part of a global fundraising effort, the Longest Day, during the Summer Solstice to help battle the disease.

"You know it's a good cause, we realize that every 65 seconds someone is affected by this disease. Someone is going to know someone close that is going to suffer from it. So we just started and it snowballed from there," Claudia Bell, Alorica Senior Operations Manager said.

Participants from across the world spent the day fighting the darkness of Alzheimer's through an activity of their choice.
