Mayors from communities along the Mahoning River corridor met with Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown Monday to discuss their needs and priorities.

Senator Brown said the roundtable allowed him to learn more about how he can help the Mayors reach their goals on issues like the revitalization of the Mahoning River and future development in the area.

Brown was joined by Mayor Brown of Youngstown, Mayor Franklin of Warren, Mayor Iudiciani of Lowellville, Mayor Melfi of Girard, Mayor Mientkiewicz of Niles and Mayor Waddell of Newton Falls.

The mayors spoke with Brown about the need for infrastructure improvements and more public/private partnerships.

Brown touched on the push for local jobs and neighborhood stabilization.

"It's always up to the local communities, and my job is to help them move from point A to point B to clean it up and fix it up for whatever end they see," said Senator Brown.

The recently passed state budget includes funds for the removal of old dams on the river and plans for the Mahoning River Trail initiative.
