DETROIT - Tim Ryan took on nine other Democratic presidential nominees during Tuesday night's debate.

The Valley Congressman spoke on immigration, healthcare, minimum wage and more.

For a good portion of the debate, Ryan had been going toe to toe with Bernie Sanders.

Ryan and Sanders exchanged words about healthcare during the debate.

Ryan said, "Here we are in Detroit. We have all our autoworker friends tonight. This plan that's being offered by Senator Sanders and Senator Warren will tell those union members who gave away wages to get good health care that they're gonna lose their healthcare."

In response, Senator Sanders said, "Can you guarantee those union members that the benefits under Medicare for all will be as good as the benefits that their representatives, their union reps fought hard to negotiate?"

That wasn't the only topic that Sanders and Ryan went back and forth on, They also touched on immigration and migrants who seek asylum in the United States.

The CNN moderator asked Ryan if he thinks that Sanders' healthcare proposals were an incentive for undocumented immigrants to come into this country illegally.

Ryan responded with, "Yes. And right now, if you want to come into the country, you should at least ring the doorbell. We have asylum laws. I saw the kids up in Grand Rapids, not far here. It is shameful what is happening, but Donald Trump is doing it."

Ryan goes on to say that Trump is to blame for what is going on at the border but if those who are seeking asylum in the United States want to come into the country then they should have to pay for health care like other Americans.

Sanders disagreed with Ryan saying, "I happen to believe that when I talk about healthcare – it's a human right. That applies to all people in this country. And under a Medicare for all single-payer system, we could afford to do that."
