MECCA TWP., Ohio - State Troopers say a bicyclist was seriously injured when he was struck by an SUV late Wednesday, shutting down a Trumbull County highway for three hours.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol hasn't released the name of the victim, who they describe as a juvenile male from Mecca Township.

According to the patrol, the cyclist was riding on State Route 88 near Morrell Ray Road in Mecca just after 8:30 p.m. When he made a left turn in front of a Ford Escape that was passing him.

The juvenile, who was thrown from his bicycle, was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown for treatment of serious injuries. The driver of the SUV wasn't injured.

Route 88 was shut down for about three hours while troopers investigated.
