YOUNGSTOWN -
First Night Youngstown is the only First Night event in Northeast Ohio, according to organizers.
It's the largest party in the area, and it's all family-friendly.
"I just like that this is a family-friendly atmosphere for families to come and enjoy downtown Youngstown," said Mayor Tito Brown.
And many did come out to enjoy what the city has to offer.
From ice skating at the Covelli Centre to Harambee Dance and Drum entertainment at 20 Federal Place, cookie decorating at One Hot Cookie, hands-on activities at Oh Wow! Science Center and so much more.
The Laughing Ladybug that offered face painting collected tips for Relay for Life.
"You never know the lives you can touch through the community," said Sarah Seigfred, a two-time cancer survivor.
Parents who took part in the family-fun activities felt it was a great variety for their children.
"This way, they have all different things they can try and have fun with and go to different places," said Patricia Fridley of Girard.
First Night, like other downtown events, brings added foot traffic to local businesses like Touch the Moon Candy Saloon that is a Retro Candy Store that also works with the disabled.
"We've had other events downtown, which has brought a lot of focus to this area, so we have been doing well with different activities," said Jim Shagla, Store Manager.
The hope is that First Night, like other downtown events, continues to attract people to the downtown and the city continues to grow into the new year.
