With snow in the forecast, AAA is sharing tips on driving in snow, slush, and ice.

According to AAA, hazardous storms and inclement weather are a factor in more than half a million crashes and more than 2,000 road deaths every winter.

AAA says drivers should slow down and drive with extra caution during the cold days ahead.

"Driving in winter conditions can be challenging," said Theresa Podguski, legislative director for AAA East Central. "Black ice, heavy snowfall, roads that have not been cleared of snow and other bad driving conditions can make it more difficult for a motorist to control their vehicle and avoid a crash."

AAA shared these tips for driving in winter weather:

  • Stay home unless you have to drive
  • Do not tailgate and maintain normal following distances
  • Do not use cruise control on slippery roads
  • Don't slam on breaks
  • Inspect your tires and tire pressure
  • Carry an emergency kit
