21 News spoke with their daughters Jamie Choudhry and Heather Humphrey, who are now encouraging riders to always wear helmets and for others, as the saying goes, "look twice and save a life."
May is Motorcycle Awareness month, a reminder to everyone to be alert and share the road
Jamie Choudhry said, "I WENT FROM DOING SOME YARD WORK PULLING SOME WEEDS AROUND MY HOUSE, TO being AT A HOSPITAL LEARNING I DIDn'T HAVE FATHER AND MY MOM WAS BEING OPERATED ON."
The accident ultimately took both of her parent's lives.
The accident killed 53-year-old James Thomas, and 48-year-old Shanna Thomas happening along SR 46 in Mecca Township.
Troopers say an 87-year-old tried to turn left into a driveway hitting their motorcycle.
"PEOPLE ALWAYS THINK ITS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN TO YOU."
Now their family asking other riders to always wear a helmet, and for others to look twice
Heather Humphrey said, "YOU ARE LITERALLY JUST MINUTES AWAY FROM HITTING SOMEONE, IT'S INSTANTLY."
"I HAD TO MAKE A LOT OF DIfficult DECISIONs I NEVER THOUGHT I'D BE MAKING AT 29-YEARS-OLD."
Their daughters now planning their parent's funeral, in the midst of a pandemic, wishing more of their family and friends could be there.
"ONE OF THE HARDEST THINGS IS MY BROTHER ISN'T ABLE TO BE HERE AND A LOT OF IT IS BECAUSE OF THE COVID-19 ISSUES."
Still, during this incredibly difficult time, they find some comfort knowing their parents are together.
"THEY WOULD ALWAYS SAY JOKINGLY, OH ID NEVER BE ABLE TO LIVE WITHOUT YOUR DAD OR OH I'D NEVER BE ABLE TO LIVE WITHOUT YOUR MOM AND ULTIMATELY THEY LIVED UP TO THEIR WORD. I GUESS WE DO GET SOME COMFORT KNOWING THEY ARE TOGETHER, DOING SOMETHING TOGETHER THEY ULTIMATELY LOVED."
