Many have resorted to at-home gyms and virtual fitness classes over the last two months but today was officially the first day Ohio gyms could open back up.

"I wanted to sit down with some of my people and my husband and really just come up with some guidelines that we felt comfortable opening with and our people would feel comfortable walking back into the studio and doing classes and running really close to each other," says Katie Glatzer, Owner of Body Temple Fitness in Boardman.

Glatzer says she was comfortable opening her studio for classes today and put in several new measures for the safety of her members.

"First of all we had to cut classes in half, normally we could fit 24 people in here but now we have to do 12 people per class. When everyone walks in we prop open the door so no one has to touch the door and they put their shoes on and they come right into the room. We had to space them out, every other treadmill."

Other fitness centers, like both Mahoning County YMCA locations, held off on opening up today.

Multiple age groups come through the doors of the YMCA, both here in Boardman and at the downtown location every single day something the YMCA has considered very carefully as it begins to open up starting June 1st.

"We are putting safety precautions in place, strict social distancing, we've moved furniture, we've shut off equipment. If we can't move it there will be social distancing between members, locker rooms are closed right now, lap swim is open one person per lane. We are really trying to proceed cautiously to make sure everyone is safe when they do come back," says YMCA of Youngstown Chief Operations Officer Beth Scheller.
