US Rep. Tim Ryan, OH-13, announced Ohio would be receiving $96,228,429 in State Opioid Response funding from the US Department of Health and Human Services Friday, Aug. 28.

This funding is the first round over two years of funding appropriated through the State Opioid Response and Tribal Opioid Response grants. The two programs will award nearly $3 billion to help states and tribes provide community-level resources for people in need of prevention, treatment, and recovery support services.

Ryan, who is Co-Chair of the Congressional Addiction, Treatment, and Recovery Caucus and member of the Task Force to Combat the Heroin Epidemic, said, “...We need sufficient resources to address the root causes of the opioid epidemic. I’m proud to have used my position on the House Appropriations Committee to ensure Northeast Ohio – and so many other communities across Ohio – get the funding we need. This sizable grant is a big step towards ensuring communities like ours will not only be able to help those who are suffering but for us to put an end to this tragic opioid epidemic once and for all.”

The State Opioid Response program provides access to medication to treat opioid use disorders, along with psychosocial services and community supports. The Tribal Opioid Response program enables the development of these same comprehensive approaches among tribal communities.
