Hubbard Township has a new police chief.

Sergeant Greg Tarr was sworn in Monday morning to replace outgoing chief Todd Coonce.

Coonce served as Hubbard Township chief for the last 26 years before deciding to retire.

The outgoing chief praised Tarr, saying "I'm leaving it in good hands, Sergeant Tarr will do a lot of good things for Hubbard Township.

Tarr has been an officer with the department for the last 27 years.

The department has seen its fair share of financial cuts in recent years. Tarr said the department will do more with less like many other departments in the country.

Tarr said that even with the challenge, he's had a good role model to follow in former chief Coonce.

"A lot of things I've learned from him over the years...we're going to build on that. Chief was always a big community person and that's important. We are a tight knit community and that will continue," said Tarr.
