YOUNGSTOWN - The Youngstown City School District is hosting Zoom meetings for parents on a multitude of topics.

The series of virtual meetings is being called Parent YOU. It begins at 5 p.m. Feb. 25 with speakers focusing on money management, literacy, diversity and early college awareness, according to the district.

"We are so excited about our Parent YOU meeting and all of the speakers we have lined up," said Linda Hoey, YCSD's chief of family engagement. "Our speakers will talk about money management, helping parents to help their scholars be better readers and diversity and inclusion. For families of English learners, the session will focus on early college awareness."

The Parent YOU virtual meetings will run monthly through May with graduation planned for June.

Below is a list of the speakers.

Youngstown native Damon Carr, a graduate of The Rayen School, will talk to parents about how to find wiggle room in their budgets in his presentation, "Get A Grip... On Your Money." Carr is a money coach and personal finance columnist.

Michelle Elia of the Ohio Department of Education's Literacy Team will review the science of reading and how parents can use it at home to help their scholars become better readers.

Representatives from the Diversity Center of Northeast Ohio will talk about diversity and inclusion as well as unconscious bias and micro-messaging.

School counselors Ann-Marie Meade and Jorge Vega Santos will help families of English learners in grades eight through 11 understand what's involved in preparing for college.
