80-year-old water main in Poland to be replaced

An 80-year-old water main throughout Poland will be replaced after an uptick in breaks.
Aqua Ohio says crews will replace 6,350 feet of pipe, 11 fire hydrants and 14 valves that serve customers in the Village of Poland and Poland Township.
Construction is expected to begin by the end of March and conclude late in the summer.
According to officials, construction will be along Venloe Drive, Edgewater Drive and North Main Street between Hamilton Avenue and Johnston Place. Traffic will be maintained but lane restrictions may be required. Drivers in the area -- especially along North Main Street -- are asked to use extra caution as workers will be in the roadway at times.
Aqua Ohio says service is planned to be maintained throughout the construction, but 170 customers will experience short-term interruptions while their services are connected to the new main near the end of the project. Those customers will be notified by Aqua in advance of the planned interruptions.
The cost of the construction is expected to be $830,000, Aqua Ohio says. The company expects to spend more than $70 million across Aqua's 33 Ohio systems in 2021 with around $8.9 million of that being invested locally.
