It was only a matter of time until the YSU football team got its first taste of victory, given the team played four nationally ranked opponents to start the season.

That tough stretch is starting to pay dividends as the Penguins beat down South Dakota 28-10 Saturday afternoon.

Jaleel McLaughlin racked 166 yards on 28 carries, his third consecutive 100-yard game.

Christian Turner got it done on the ground and in the passing game, chalking up 59 yards, and a touchdown run on just nine carries....to go along with three receptions for 20 yards and a score.

Girard-product Mark Waid found Turner for the games first score half-way through the first quarter, and led 8-0 after one quarter.

Colten McFadden and Mason Lorber traded field goals in the second quarter and going into the locker room, the Penguins led 11-3.

As Grant Dixon put it during the post game press conference, "We put an emphasis this week on finishing games."

That's exactly what the Penguins did...in the third frame...Mark Waid found pay dirt from one yard out and extended their lead to 15.  McFadden added another field goal late in the quarter, and with 15 minutes to play, YSU owned a three-possession lead.

Christian Turner put the Coyotes in the rear-view mirror with a 38-yard touchdown run, just over two minutes into the fourth frame.

South Dakota added a touchdown late, but too little too late as Youngstown State puts a tally in the win column.

They'll host North Dakota next Saturday.
