Healthy steps to reduce the COVID-19 pandemic pounds

The stress of the pandemic, and being less active has helped pack on what is being called the "COVID nineteen."
That's the common 19 to 30 extra pounds of weight many gained in the last year.
The C-D-C says that's not good since excess weight increases the odds of severe illness or death if one catches the virus.
But as spring paves the way to better weather there are steps one can take towards better health.
Beginning or getting back to healthier eating habits is one important step to help return to a healthier you.
YoFresh says eating whole foods, fresh vegetables, plant-based foods, and watching portion sizes can help you get back to your pre-pandemic or your goal weight.
Chef Don adds a registered dietitian is one key ingredient for tasty nutritious meals at Yo Fresh.
"We definitely focus on fresh vegetables, nothing frozen, no fillers, no additives, lean meats, 90-10 beef, 90-10 ground turkey," said Don.
He emphasizes whether you're educating your kids at home, an essential worker on the front lines, or live alone the fuel you give yourself, and your family's bodies are important.
At YoFresh orders placed online are delivered to homes in many locations in Mahoning, Trumbull, and Columbiana counties.
If delivery is unavailable to your home, you can pick up orders Sundays at the business in Canfield.
People can check out the menu and place orders at yofresh.com
Chef Don said, "YoFresh makes it easy and simple for you to eat this healthy food without having to shop, hit the grocery stores, tear up the kitchen..."
We asked about the price.
"It's a ten-dollar stop at the drive-through with a meal and a cola, and it's full of fats, non-proteins, no fresh vegetables, so on a comparable scale, we're affordable if your willing to invest a little in your health," said Chef Don.
"White House Fruit Farms is open, there's a lot of local Farmers Markets getting ready to pop up so get out there, get your fresh vegetables and fresh foods, eat good, feel good, and do good," added Chef Don.
His business donates back to the community.
In addition to better eating habits, there are additional steps we all can take such as exercises to help improve our health.
Local parks and trails provide opportunities for biking, walking, and other activities such as playing frisbee and softball.
But health experts say you can also walk around your block to get exercise.
Walking and outdoor activities such as gardening, or fishing can help reduce stress and the production of cortisol. High cortisol levels can help lead to more weight gain and diabetes. Most people have been under continual stress during this pandemic dealing with an unseen but potentially deadly virus.
Rob, who still has breathing issues due to COVID-19, and his family took 900 steps towards health at Fellow Riverside Gardens in Youngstown. In addition to walking, they rested and time to enjoy the flowers.
Rob and his wife tell WFMJ news they love the gardens. Cole added, they just came down to enjoy this beautiful day and to enjoy spring.
