HOWLAND TWP., Ohio -  An organization that provides transportation and other services to the developmentally disabled in Howland is offering a reward for information leading to the arrest of men who stole valuable catalytic converters from vans that were parked outside the North River Road facility.

According to a Howland police report, surveillance video shows three men crawling under two transport vehicles early Saturday at the Creative Learning Workshop and stealing two converters estimated to be worth $1,100 each.

The report says the suspects being picked up by a red SUV.

Caren Painter, president of CLW, tells 21 News that they have been the target of catalytic converter thefts more than seven times.

“We have put anti-theft guards in place, but it didn't always work,” said Painter. “This is expensive and also keeps us from being able to transport our developmentally disabled adults to work.”

Painter said she knows of other providers being targeted by converter thieves.

Early Monday, Howland police were called to a restaurant parking lot on Elm Road where converters had been stolen from two pickup trucks.

The Creative Learning Workshop is offering a $500 reward for anyone that can identify any of the suspects that lead to an arrest.

“So many businesses are getting hit, and the cost and interruption to services and our daily operations is in the thousands,” said Painter.

People with information about the crimes are asked to call the Howland Police at 330-856-5555.
