STRUTHERS, Ohio - A 46-year-old Youngstown man on parole for a grand theft conviction is behind bars again, accused of robbing the Struthers Federal Credit union

Anthony Salata is being held in the Mahoning County jail on charges of robbery and inducing panic after police say he was found unresponsive behind a Boardman restaurant on Thursday.

Police say a man went into the credit union on Poland Avenue Thursday morning and told a teller that he wanted to open an account. The teller explained that she needed to see an ID to open it.

The suspect then said that it was a robbery and demanded money, according to a news release from Struthers Police Chief Tim Roddy. The teller handed over an unknown amount of money, and the suspect fled on foot across Poland Avenue.

Roddy says officers were able to get information on a person of interest, and an arrest warrant was obtained for Salata.

Around 1:45 p.m., the Boardman Fire Department responded to the report of an unresponsive man lying in a ditch behind the McDonald's on East Midlothian Boulevard at South Avenue. The man was later identified as Salata, according to Roddy. It's unclear why Salata was unresponsive.

Roddy says Salata was arrested, transported for questioning, and then taken to the Mahoning County Jail.

Salata was imprisoned in 2019 after being convicted of grand theft.  He was freed and placed on parole in August.
