Man allegedly tries to hit Niles officer, rams police cruiser with stolen car

NILES, Ohio - A man has been arrested following an incident at the Days Inn in Niles, where he allegedly tried to hit a police officer.
According to the release, police were dispatched to the Day Inn on Route 422, where 23-year-old David Maurice Copes was assaulting a female and trying to steal her car.
Police say Copes attempted to hit a Niles officer with the stolen car and rammed into his police cruiser before fleeing from the area.
Copes fled from the car on Old Forge and Andrea Boulevard, and officers began searching the area.
Niles, Howland, and Warren police were able to locate Copes at an apartment at Royal Mall Drive and arrested him.
Copes has been booked into the Trumbull County Jail on charges of felonious assault on a police officer and failure to comply with order or signal of a police officer.
He will be arraigned Monday in Niles Municipal Court.
