AUSTINTOWN, Ohio - An Austintown man was arrested early Wednesday morning after allegedly assaulting a woman and trying to drown her.

According to the police report, a woman approached an officer outside of Austintown Community Church on State Route 46 just after 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, alerting the officer that she had been physically assaulted by a man at his Purdue Avenue home.

The police report notes that the woman's hair and clothes appeared to be wet.

The woman told police the man, identified as 48-year-old Christian Allen, became enraged after she refused to "cuddle" or "sleep" with him.

The police report described the situation escalated when the woman grabbed her purse and car keys to leave.

Allen then threw the woman to the ground before taking her purse and throwing it into his pool, according to police.

While inside the house, Allen reportedly turned all the lights off and told the woman she was "gonna die" before repeatedly punching her in the face.

The report stated that Allen later grabbed the woman by the hair and threw her into the pool, holding her head under the water.

She eventually escaped and began to run before locating the officer.

Police said Allen was found walking down State Route 46 near the church and was arrested by officers.
