AUSTINTOWN, Ohio - A local man is heading to the Tokyo Olympics and an area artist is creating a portrait to commemorate the event.

Nick Bruce, 29, is one of four members of the USA's BMX Freestyle Team.

Local artist Ron Moore, Jr. is in the middle of creating a portrait honoring Bruce and his quest for gold in Tokyo.

In the portrait, Moore has Bruce in mid-air next to the Olympic rings.

The 2011 Hubbard graduate was a YSU student before taking time off to pursue his BMX career.

Bruce is best known for landing the first flair tailwhip to tailwhip back and landing the first 360 double tailwhip to downside tailwhip.

He's no stranger to the big stage, having participated in the X Games in 2017 and 2019.

His best X Games finish was 4th in the BMX Dirt event.
