Homeowner complaints over construction in Austintown neighborhood

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio - For weeks, construction crews have been working on two stretches of road on Norquest Boulevard in order to replace a gas main line.
The renovation has brought the work directly into homeowners' front yards. Overall, the project is spurring mixed reactions from the neighborhood.
"They really know what they're doing, and it's supposed to make our lives better. So, I'm certainly not going to complain about it," Gerald Venteresco, a Norquest Boulevard homeowner, said.
However, homeowner Tricia Terlesky has a different point of view, mentioning its an inconvenience.
"I'm sure in the long run what they're doing is a good thing, but it would be nice to know [ahead of time] and not feel claustrophobic getting out of the driveway," she said.
Other issues that residents have encountered with the four-month construction project is the influx of traffic it is bringing to the neighborhood.
"[Backing] out of the driveway, it's like, 'which way do I go without being blocked in?'" Terlesky said.
Austintown Police say traffic is most likely during the morning rush between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m., as well as the afternoon lunch and after-work rushes.
Police have been asked to stay out with crews for the duration of the project. They have this to say for drivers that encounter the stretch of roadwork during their regular commutes.
"Just stay off of Norquest [Boulevard]. There's other routes. You know, you could take Racoon [Road]. You could take Evans [Road]. You could take Kimberly [Avenue]. You could take [Route] 46," Richard John with the Austintown Police, said.
The company responsible for the construction says that pending weather delays, it plans on wrapping up construction in the winter.
Until then, a waiting game, for both homeowners and drivers.
