1996: Mahoning County Sheriff Edward Nemeth endorses Youngstown Police Chief Randall Wellington, who is running as an independent, over the Democratic candidate for sheriff, Phil Chance, who defeated Nemeth in the primary. 
 
The board of directors of Packard Music Hall rejects a bid by John Kenley to bring his theater programs back to Warren. Kenley had operated his Kenley Players summer stock theater at the music hall between 1958 and 1978.
 
The Dillard's department store chain opens its newest store in the Eastwood Mall.

1946: Bernard Terry, 37, owner of the Warren Amusement Co., is beaten by four thugs who invaded his jukebox shop. It's the latest incident in ongoing trouble between competing jukebox companies in Warren. 
 
Speaking in West Farmington, U.S. Rep. Michael J. Kirwan says the Lake Erie-Ohio River canal is going to be built, but that if it weren't. a bleak future would be in store for Mahoning and Trumbull counties' farms and industries.
