YOUNGSTOWN - Members of Youngstown City Council are slated to consider spending more than $8 million to rid the community of blight.

One item on next week’s council agenda is an ordinance to use eight million federal dollars from the American Rescue Plan to demolish and remediate vacant, abandoned, and blighted properties throughout the city.

The legislation, sponsored by Fifth Ward Councilperson Lauren McNally, says the expenditure would have a positive impact on the health of community members.

A second ordinance calls for using a $212,750 state grant to remediate the site of a long-abandoned convenience store at 1395 Wick Avenue.

The Abandoned Gas Station Cleanup Grant would be used to demolish the building, remove underground gas tanks, and restore the property for future development.
