Tim Ryan looks back Jan. 6 riots; discusses plans to move forward

On Jan. 6, 2021, a joint session of Congress was set to convene in the U.S. Capitol to certify Joe Biden's win over President Donald Trump when protestors marched and attacked the Capitol in an attempt to stop the vote certification.
One year later, Mahoning Valley veteran journalists Bertram de Souza and Cynthia Rickard look back on that historic day with U.S. Congressman Tim Ryan, D-Howland, and discussed the challenges the nation faces as the investigation continues.
Ryan released a statement saying "None of us can or should forget the events of January 6th and the attempted ransacking of our representative democracy. As we collectively remember the events of one year ago today, let us first pause to pray for those who lost their lives in the line of duty—not only that day, but the days and weeks following. Our hearts are with the families and loved ones of these patriots who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect members of Congress and defend our nation’s Capitol."
In the podcast, Ryan stated, "If you're not moved by an insurrection the Capitol, how removed are you from your humanity?"
Ryan said "We have to work to heal these wounds," but also said he feared it would not get any better in his lifetime.
Ryan also said that the conversation needs to change from false talk of a fraudulent election, and "the conversation in the country should be how to rebuild the great American middle class."
Ryan is also the chairman of the House Legislative Branch subcommittee, which oversees the U.S. Capitol, including funding for Capitol Police.
