A local IT expert is offering folks across the Valley tips on how to keep their Zoom meetings protected after an incident at a Warren City Council meeting on Tuesday.

During the Tuesday meeting, hackers got into the meeting and began shouting racial slurs at various council members.

Following the incident, at-large council member, Ken McPherson says the incident should force council to upgrade their software so a similar incident does not happen again.

Kent State University IT Manager, Frank Lindsay tells 21 News that it's better to be safe than sorry when it comes to setting up your next Zoom meeting.

Lindsay recommends turning your waiting rooms on. This way people can only get into the meeting if you approve them. Furthermore, Lindsay recommends that you require a password for your meeting and only share it with those involved in the meeting.

Finally, Lindsay recommends taking the same route McPherson suggested in making sure your antivirus software, as well as your operating software are both up to date.

Meanwhile, Warren City Council members suggest that further down the line, there should be more rules about who is allowed to set up and host their Zoom meetings.
