TRUMBULL COUNTY, OH - Residents will have the choice between two Democratic candidates: Dawn Cantalamessa and Sean O'Brien respectively.

The deadline for independents to file to run in this race was Monday, May 2 by 4 p.m., and no candidates filed. And there were no Republican challengers for this seat, meaning that the outcome primary race will determine who will be the next Trumbull County Common Pleas Judge. 

Here is some background on the two Democratic candidates:

Cantalamessa has had a long history in the courtroom serving as an assistant prosecutor since early 2001. 

She served as Assistant Prosecutor in the Mahoning County Prosecutor's Office until August of 2021. Since then, she became Assistant County Prosecutor for the Ashtabula County Prosecutor's Office.

Meanwhile, O'Brien also served as a prosecutor, before moving into the Ohio House of Representatives in 2011, followed by moving into the Ohio Senate in 2017.

Previously, O'Brien stated that he's been doing this for a long time, so he feels like this is the next logical step in his career.

The new judge will be decided after the polls are closed.
