FDA warns of potential Salmonella poisoning after dog treat recall
1/6
Stormberg was notified earlier this month that a sample of their treats was positive for the bacteria after a test by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services.
According to the FDA, Salmonella poses a risk to humans who might handle the contaminated products and pets who consume the product.
Symptoms of a Salmonella infection in a human includes nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever. The bacteria can also cause more serious conditions, including arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation, and urinary tract symptoms.
In pets, Salmonella infections could cause lethargy, diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Other symptoms could include a decreased appetite and abdominal pain.
No illnesses have been reported to date, but if your pet has consumed the recalled products and has these symptoms the FDA suggests contacting your veterinarian.
