A day after a devastating downpour and high winds, a California Avenue plaza was damaged after an EF0 tornado hit the building Sunday, September 4, damaging the roof.

One of the business sites in the plaza, the Tobacco Tavern location, was damaged after part of the roof was torn off by the tornado, which the National Weather Service is reporting was an EF0, which means the winds ranged from 65 to 85 mph.

21 News spoke with plaza owners and said the repairs are expected to be complete within several weeks.

Save A Lot grocery in the Boardman Plaza is also closed after the store was flooded by the heavy rain Sunday, and owner Henry Nemenz told 21 News that the store would reopen on Wednesday, September 7. Nemenz said approximately 2 inches of water was on the floor inside the building, but they could get the water out and start the clean-up process.

Nemenz said some of the upgrades performed at the business in 2019, when the grocery store sustained substantial damage from flooding, prevented this flooding from being worse than it is.
