World Mental Health Day: How to reduce stress

Monday is World Mental Health Day, where people raise awareness for anxiety, depression and more often, stress.
The American Heart Association wants to remind the Mahoning Valley how important it is to take care of the mind.
"Poor mental health and stress can lead to poor physical health which can also lead to disease including heart disease and stroke," Jennifer McNeil with the American
There are some simple ways to destress, which can improve your mental and physical health.
"Number one is, take some time, sit, relax, close your eyes, 90 seconds on the clock, take deep cleansing breaths," McNeil said "At the of that 90 seconds you will feel less stress."
She said it's super important to put down your cell phone.
"Get off of social media, that's one of the biggest tips I can give you," she said, "If you spend two hours of your day, completely shut off from social media, it allows you to just be in the moment of your life, of your day and you won't think about things on social media."
Instead, take a walk. Endorphins can also help you relieve stress.
"Do something physical or active, the endorphins get going and that's a great way to relieve that stress that you have during the day," she said.
Feed your soul by listening to some soothing music or any tunes that make you happy.
"Music has a way of really calming everything down and it can relax you and reduce stress as well," she said.
