More progress has been made in restoring power to residents of the Mahoning and Shenango Valley.

According to the FirstEnergy website, as of 2:30 p.m., outages in Mahoning County have mostly subsided with just 28 outages reported.

Trumbull County is experiencing even more progress, with the county as a whole reporting less than five outages.

Columbiana County has made a bit of progress with 126 outages reported with most coming from Hanover Township with some lingering on in Hanoverton and Franklin Township as well.

Mercer County's outages have gone up to 63, but nearly all of them are in the Jamestown Borough only.

Lauren Siburkis of FirstEnergy tells 21 News the outages were primarily due to high winds. Siburkis says while FirstEnergy cannot prevent all outages, the company is taking steps to minimize the impact of these outages and get power back on as soon as possible.

"In addition to the automated equipment and technology we've installed, additional power lines have been constructed to provide more flexibility in restoring outages due to events such as storms and vehicle accidents. The new power lines will help reduce the length and overall number of customers impacted during an outage by switching them to a backup line for faster service restoration," Siburkis said.
