Suspect in Warren crashes charged with DUI, assault on police officer

Warren Police had their hands full early morning with a man suspected of being involved in four traffic accidents, a fight, and assault on a police officer, all in a span of a couple of hours.
Police say they were called to Maxwell Avenue and Clearview Street NW just before 3 a.m. where they found 36-year-old Robert Mach inside someone else’s car after Mach’s car had stuck a utility pole.
The owner of the car, who said he didn’t know Mach, was trying to get Mach out of the car while Mach was pulling on the door handle, trying to remain inside.
After an officer ordered Mach to get out of the car, Police say he was stumbling and smelled of alcohol.
While refusing the officer’s order to turn around and put his hands behind his back, Mach tried to punch the officer, according to the police report.
That’s when the officer fired his taser at Mach, handcuffing him when he fell to the ground.
An EMT who arrived told police that earlier that morning, Mach’s got into a fight with a resident of Woodbine Ave. SE after Mach’s car ran into trash cans in his yard. The EMT says Mach fled from the area.
After running the license plate of Mach’s car, police found it was the same vehicle that was pursued by Niles Police after a hit-and-run accident on North Road earlier that night.
Police say Mach’s car was also involved in a collision with a Jeep earlier that morning, leaving a woman with head injuries.
The police report says Mach tried to punch a medic on the way to Mercy Hospital and he was so uncooperative he needed to be sedated.
Arraigned from the Trumbull County Jail Monday via video, Mach pleaded not guilty to resisting arrest, assault on a police officer, DUI, vehicle trespass, failure to control his vehicle, and driving with a suspended license.
Another court hearing in the case is set for later this month.
