Andy Saxon has been coaching girls basketball at Girard longer than any other coach.

His 456 wins, which is 45th in state history have all come leading the Indians.

"I wanted to stay here and didn't want to leave," said the Girard alumnus. "Its that family bond you have when you stay at the same place . I can't see myself going somewhere else to coach."

Saxon took over the program in 1985 after being the Indians junior varsity coach.

"Everybody said girls, your going to coach girls. I love coaching girls," said Saxon.

During his tenure the Indians won 15 sectional titles, three TAC 8 championships and five times he was named the Trumbull County coach of the year.

He'll have at two more games before he hangs up his whistle for good.  They play Badger Thursday night in last regular season home game & then a first round tournament game.

Saxon leaves Girard as the districts winningest basketball coach.
