COLUMBUS, Ohio - Three Ohio lawmakers held a roundtable discussion Wednesday on the East Palestine train derailment.

State Representative Lauren McNally (D-Youngstown) joined Ohio Senate Minority Leader Nickie Antonio (D-Lakewood) and Senator Paula Hicks-Hudson (D-Toledo) to discuss their concerns following the incident.

Representatives from the United States Department of Agriculture, Natural Resources Conservation Service, Ohio Environmental Council, American Cancer Society and the Ohio Association of Professional Fire Fighters were in attendance as well.

According to the release, the roundtable included a variety of topics including property values, commercial and family farms being taken care of and environmental and human health.

Rep. McNally says she and other Ohio House Democrats have been working on the ground and in the background since the derailment.

The release says they've been reviewing the railroad remediation plan submitted to the Ohio EPA, speaking with Mahoning and Columbiana County health commissioners and collaborating with railroad representatives to find long-term solutions to prevent similar tragedies.

"This roundtable provided really good direction on action we can take right now that will make things better for the people living in East Palestine, but we didn't stop there. We know Ohio needs us focused on preventing future disasters and improving how we respond to them," said Rep. McNally.
