Congressman sets roundtable with Lawrence County officials on derailment

WAMPUM, Pa. - Republican U.S. Congressman Mike Kelly of Pennsylvania is the latest elected official planning to hold a meeting to discuss the impact of the East Palestine train derailment.
According to his office, Rep. Kelly will hold a roundtable meeting with commissioners and local government leaders in Lawrence County Friday afternoon.
In a statement from Kelly’s office, the congressman said that although Lawrence County is just three miles from the derailment, the U.S. EPA has focused primarily on the one-mile radius within the crash site, allowing 22 Pennsylvania homes to be tested, leaving Lawrence County residents largely without testing.
Kelly says he’ll meet with leaders from the Borough of Enon Valley, Little Beaver Township, the Borough of New Beaver, and others.
Since the derailment earlier this month, Lawrence County residents have demanded air, soil, and water quality testing to ensure the environment is safe from hazardous chemicals from the derailment, according to Kelly.
